Based in Écueil, in the Montagne de Reims, Champagne Frédéric Savart has become one of the leading references for terroir-driven grower Champagne. Working primarily with Pinot Noir on the chalk-rich slopes of the Petite Montagne de Reims, the domaine produces highly sought-after Champagnes defined by precision, energy and strong vineyard identity.

A Premier Cru artisan from Écueil

Although the Savart family has cultivated vines in Champagne for several generations, the modern identity of the domaine truly emerged under Frédéric Savart, who gradually shifted production toward a more artisanal and parcel-focused philosophy.

The estate is based in Écueil, a Premier Cru village of the Montagne de Reims particularly suited to Pinot Noir. The chalk and sand-rich soils produce wines combining freshness, structure and aromatic precision rather than power alone. Alongside Écueil, the domaine also farms parcels in Villers-aux-Noeuds and Chamery, bringing additional nuance and complexity across the range.

Rather than blending for consistency, Frédéric Savart increasingly focuses on individual vineyard expressions and small-production cuvées. Wines such as L'Ouverture, Le Mont Benoît and Les Noues de Ecueil have become reference points for contemporary grower Champagne, each highlighting a distinct interpretation of Montagne de Reims Pinot Noir.

Crafting Pinot Noir Champagne with precision

Frédéric Savart's philosophy is simple: the best wine is made from the best grapes. Both vineyard work and vinification are therefore carried out with deep respect for the terroir and the fruit itself.

Viticulture at Savart is guided by low-intervention farming and careful observation of each parcel. Vineyard work focuses on preserving soil life, balanced ripeness and the individual character of each terroir. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand with strict grape selection.

In the cellar, vinifications are parcel-based and adapted to the profile of each wine. Fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts and take place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, allowing Frédéric Savart to preserve both precision and texture. The result is a range of Champagnes defined by tension, purity and strong ageing potential.

A word on Frédéric Savart

Frédéric Savart took over the family estate in Écueil in the early 2000s and progressively transformed it into one of the leading names of the grower Champagne movement. He gradually developed a more terroir-focused and parcel-driven approach, centred on precision, low dosage and minimal intervention. Today, he is widely regarded as one of the leading figures of contemporary grower Champagne, particularly for his work with Pinot Noir in the Montagne de Reims.
